A person who was on diet goes to local supermarket, buys himself ten bars of chocolate and eats everything in one day and then he thinks that theres nothing better than old lifestyle. There is another not traditional method. According to the bodybuilding guide, weight loss depends on energy balance. This method isn't so popular in magazine articles, but I think it should be the foundation of every weight loss program.

Basically when I say that weight loss is dependent on energy balance I mean that you should plan your meals and plan your daily activities. The days don't have to be perfectly planned, but the thing is that you will know how many energy you use. Inou short terms it means that you should get less energy from food than you use. This is a fact of successful bodybuilding. There are hundreds of pills, vitamins on the market, but if you don't combine it with this principle you unlikely will achieve the results you want.

Weight Training for Weight Loss: Start Now

If youre already exercising and eating right with the aim of slimming down, heres something you might not have thought of that can help you achieve your goal: weight training.

Weight training refers to working out with weights, whether dumbbells and barbells (free weights) or the weights you find on exercise contraptions, that you lift by means of pulleys and cables.

If youre currently walking or running or doing other cardiovascular exercise to take off fat, you might think weights would not add anything to your efforts. After all, youre burning off calories either way, right?

Done correctly, though, weight training willbring a dimension to your workout that goes beyond calorie burn-off. It will sharpen and define your muscles, which will make you look and feel leaner even before youve reached your ideal weight target.

Not only will working out with weights make you look better in the eyes of others, it will help motivate you to keep working toward your goal.

Here are some tips for anyone considering weight training for weight loss:

1. Dont spend a lot of money on equipment, at least to begin with.

A basic set of dumbbells in a few different weights will get you started, and may be all you ever need. For the average person who hasnt had much strength training, I recommend purchasing two each of the following size dumbbells: 8 (or 10) pounds, 15 pounds, and 20 (or 25) poundsthat's six dumbbells in all.

Later on you can add a barbell with a set of adjustable weights if you like. However, I recommend getting an adjustable incline/decline bench to use with your dumbbells before spending for a barbell. A bench and dumbbells will equip you to perform nearly all the weight training exercises that you need if your main goal is weight loss (as opposed to trying to look like Mr. Universe).

Fancy workout machines are greatand expensive! If you have access to a gym then by all means take advantage ofsuch equipment. But don't think that you need it in order to get a good workout.

2. Buy or borrow a good illustrated instructional book on weight lifting. Look for one targeted toward average people--people who just want to get fit or get into shape--rather than toward competitive bodybuilders.

In line with tip #1, also make sure that the book you use contains exercises you can do with dumbbells alone, and that work all parts of your body.

If you wish to make maximum progress, I strongly recommend that you also read a book on the general subject of weight loss. Avoid the fad diet of the moment. Look for a book grounded in good science, that contains practical advice for nutritional and lifestyle changes that lead to permanent fat loss. (Some excellent books in this line are actually available as downloads from the Internet.)

3. Work out with your weights regularly. If all you have is 20 minutes every Monday, then make and keep that weekly appointment with yourself.

If you have more time, here's what I consider to be an ideal "weight training for weight loss" schedule. It will give excellent results with a time commitment that is still reasonable:

Monday: 10 minutes of cardio exercise + 20 to 30 minutes' weight training

Tuesday: 10 to 20 minutes of cardio

Wednesday: 10 minutes of cardio exercise + 20 to 30 minutes' weight training

Thursday: 10 to 20 minutes of cardio

Friday: 10 minutes of cardio exercise + 20 to 30 minutes' weight training

Saturday & Sunday: Nothing! Or, better, work in a couple of brisk walks around the neighborhood.

Important: Always put at least one day between your weight training days. Never work out with weights on consecutive days, even if you're tempted to do so. When you exercise with weights you are actually tearing down muscle so that it can rebuild itself stronger and bigger. Those in-between days are your muscles' crucial rebuilding days.

4. Use the right number of exercise sets for weight loss--not for bodybuilding.

Not one in a hundred exercisers understands this point. But now you will!

When you work out with weights, you convert a certain amount of fat to muscle. Muscle weighs something, too, though. If your goal is to lose weight, you don't want to end up with a pound of muscle for every pound of fat you started with. You would be more muscular for sure, but you would still be overweight!

The key is to do fewer sets of a given exercise than is called for in "regular" or non-weight-loss-oriented weight training.

The best instructional books give separate instructions for their workouts according to their reader's particular goal, whether that's to lose pounds, to build the biggest muscles possible, or something in between. If the book you're using does not offer this, you can make the adjustment yourself.

Keep in mind that a set contains a certain number of repititions or "reps" of an exercise. A typical weight training book may instruct you to do 4 sets of a particular exercise, each set consisting of 10 reps, for a total of 40 reps. In this case you (as a weight loss exerciser) would do no more than 2 sets of 10 reps each, for a total of 20 reps maximum.

By throttling back to about half of the prescribed number of sets, you can be assured that you will be both building muscle and losing weight. (Alternately, you may want to keep the number of sets unchanged but do just half the number of reps per set.)

To be safe you can limit yourself to one set per exercise per workout session, regardless of what your book instructs. Trust me: As long as you're getting in your cardio sessions, too (and eating right, of course), you will lose weight--and you'll gain some nice, "ripped" muscles in the process.

Ok so you've found a program that moreless works for fat loss. You find yourself successfully losing weight, but you also see that you'll gain some weight back from time to time and you don't know why. Sometimes it may be because you cheat yourself, and you know who you are, or you are genuinely doing something wrong. Ok ok let me explain what may be happening.

And it's not what you'd expect

Your exercise and diet programs may be working, but what your programs aren't teaching you is that you have to cycle your eating and exercise routines every so often. This step is vital to keep progressing with not only fat loss but to increasing muscle as well.

"Why should I cycle my diet?"

Very well, you see our bodies are sort of like machines. Like cars need new oil every 3,000 miles, our bodies need what I like to call "New Eating Plans" every so often just as well. For our cars to keep running with the utmost efficiency new oil is required, for our bodies to keep burning more energy new eating plans are also needed.

This is what's called "Calorie Shifting"

What is behind Calorie Shifting? Ok here's the rundown, your metabolism burns a set amount of calories per day, this calorie amount is based on how many calories you normally take in. So in turn, your metabolism knows how many calories you are going to eat so it'll burn a set amount calories. Essentially, Calorie Shifting is a means to trick your metabolism, to make it work harder and burn more fat, because you switch the amount of calories you take in, your metabolism doesn't know how to respond.

"So my metabolism won't do anything?"

Not exactly, your metabolism is a problem solver, so when it burns off the calories you just ate it will look for more energy to burn, thus attacking your fat tissue and helping you burn more fat. When you surprise your metabolism you force it to burn more energy, and once it burns off all of the "on-hand" energy it goes after your adipose fat, which is stored fat in your body.

There you have it, my friends, this is how you not only maintain fat loss, but also increase fat burn and efficiency.

Weight Loss Tip #3 - Eat Breakfast Every Day

Back in the caveman days, our metabolism adjusted based on whether or not we were getting enough food over a short period of time. If there was plenty to eat, our metabolism took advantage of that surplus and started to speed up, allowing us to do more work and expend more energy. If there wasn't a lot of food available and our daily intake was dwindling, our bodies adapted to that and slowed our metabolism.

It works the same way today--studies show repeatedly that not eating all morning long, and then having a big meal later, makes you gain weight; whereas dividing the exact same number of calories over five or six smaller meals during the day will result in weight loss. Eating breakfast starts your metabolism going because your body recognizes there is energy available to use.

Some people even get discouraged when they start eating breakfast because then they are hungry three hours later. "Before, I could go all day without eating" they complain, "and now I keep feeling like I have to eat something every three or four hours". Guess what? That's because your body is using what you fed it and ready for more energy to keep going. Let me ask you my favorite Dr. Phil question if you are not successful at weight loss and you do not eat breakfast ... "How's that working for you?"

Now, let's figure out why you don't eat breakfast and what you might try to get around your own personal challenge:

Excuse #1-- "I don't have time". Well, this just isn't a good excuse anymore with all the breakfast bars there are out there. You can keep a box of nutrigrain bars, special K bars, 'go-tarts' (a slightly smaller, lower calorie version of pop-tarts), or any of the other dozen varieties of compact ready-to-eat bars that contain less than 170 calories in your car and not even have to take the time to remember to grab something in the morning. Here are your new directions: (1) unwrap, (2) eat on the way to work.

For those of you with a little bit of time in the morning, but not enough to cook or to sit and eat something that requires using a spoon or fork, here are two more options: For a hot breakfast, toast an english muffin or small bagel (the kind with 100-150 calories-- not 400 calories) while you're getting your briefcase and coat ready to go. On your way out the door, grab a slice of cheese (low fat mozzarella is my favorite) and place it on one piece of the toast. Put the other piece of toast on top of this and wrap in a paper towel. When you get in the car and pull away from your house, you are ready to open the paper towel and enjoy a warm, melted cheese breakfast sandwich!

For a cold breakfast, slice and freeze fruit ahead of time. Bananas, berries, and peaches all work great. Throw a cup full in a blender or a magic bullet, pour lowfat or skim milk in to cover the fruit, put on lid, and blend for about 20 seconds until you have a smoothie. Pour in a cup and take with you... how easy is that? And very low fat with calcium and vitamins to boot.

Excuse #2--"I don't like breakfast foods". Guess what? You do not have to eat breakfast foods at breakfast. You can have a turkey sandwich or a cold chicken leg or a leftover bowl of chili. It's really only our country and our culture that chooses what our typical breakfast is. If you visit other places you may see them eating fish and yogurt for breakfast! So grab whatever you like and enjoy having a meal in the morning. If you're trying to lose weight you should definitely keep the meal under 500 calories with less than 30% of the calories coming from fat. Otherwise, there are no restrictions on what you like to eat first thing in the morning, as long as you enjoy it!

Excuse #3--I'm not hungry in the morning". This is totally understandable. Your body isn't used to eating something at this hour and you feel like you have no appetite at all. Some people even get nauseated at the thought of eating first thing in the morning. You might try eating something an hour or so after you get up, like just when you get to work (if you can change your schedule to get there 15 minutes ahead of time it won't interfere with your job). Or you might do well to start with liquids and light foods. Try a small glass of juice and five or six saltines. Maybe some dry cereal. Or a Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink. Anything you can sip or munch on slowly, whether it's at home, on the way to work, or in the office. Let your body ease into the idea of a new meal at a new time.

Excuse #4--"Then I get hungry at 10:30". See paragraph two. Have a snack. Don't worry that you are eating more. Have a 200 calorie breakfast and a 100 calorie snack (a few graham cracker squares and a piece of fruit, or a 100 calorie snack bag). See if you don't notice that you are much less hungry at lunch and at dinner and that you end up eating less food later in the day.

Finding real life hoodia success stories isn't hard to do. You can visit just about any website promoting or selling hoodia supplements and they'll have a testimonial page full of success stories from those who have tried hoodia. The problem is you never know if these hoodia success stories are real or not. Is the seller posting real testimonials or are they made up by the seller in a cheap attempt to get you to buy their product?

The best hoodia success stories are those that are covered by journalists who don't have an interest in selling you anything. With that in mind, I ran across an interesting story online by WAVE 3, a NBC television station in Louisville, KY. The television station recruited three regular people back in late February who were willing to try hoodia for a twelve week period. WAVE 3 monitored their progress and reported their results. The station recently revealed the final results of the twelve week trial.

The three participants lost an average of twelve pounds over the twelve week period. That's not all there is to tell in these hoodia success stories. In addition to losing an average of one pound per week, the participants didn't experience any negative side effects. They also noted that hoodia was much more than just a natural appetite suppressant. To them, it was a catalyst to a healthier state of mind.

This is great news to dieters who may be looking for a little help, but my only question about these hoodia success stories is what specifically were these participants doing during this twelve week period? How much hoodia were they taking each day? When were they taking it? Did they make any changes to their diet? Finally, did they exercise and if so, how much and how often? Unfortunately, none of these details were given in the story.

We are lead to believe that all this successful weight loss was the result of hoodia alone. Normally I'm suspicious of successful weight loss results from hoodia users when they say hoodia alone was the answer. The reason is because hoodia's role as part of an overall weight loss program is somewhat limited given that it only suppresses appetite. Dieters still have to do the heavy lifting such as maintaining a healthy diet and ideally, maintaining a regular exercise program. However, if these three participants did in fact lose an average of one pound per week on hoodia alone, I'm willing to accept it because that amount of weight isn't so great as not to be believable.

There are 3,500 calories in a pound of fat. To lose one pound of fat per week, you'd need to consume just 500 calories less per day or burn an additional 500 calories per day. It's very likely that an appetite suppressant could prevent you from eating 500 calories per day. For some that would mean skipping just one candy bar! If hoodia gordonii works as well as many dieters say it does, it's very likely that it could help you skip one or two unhealthy snacks per day at the very least.

Even without having a lot of details in these hoodia success stories, it still adds to the mounting evidence of the effectiveness of hoodia diet pills. Based on these latest hoodia success stories, hoodia diet pills just might be worth considering if you have a few extra pounds to lose.

Permanent Weight Loss - A Question of Re-Programming

This morning I received an email from my great friend Jen. In it was a question asked by the cybernetics engineer Norbert Weiner in response to a question, about how to determine the causes of schizophrenia, from his friend and epidemiologist, Gregory Bateson.

The email went on to adapt the question into one that I found most revealing. So I though you may like to ponder over it as I have done...

"If you were going to build a machine that produced a battle with weight, size, shape and food the way you do it, what would the machine need to do?"

Think about it and write down your own answers before you read what mine were. Don't forget, we are all uniquely different and your machine may be quite different from mine!

So my machine (as it used to be) was developed to run a programme that...

1. Constantly identified food as 'good' or 'bad' so I feared it and yet craved it.

2. Ran continuous movies about the 'bad' food and how much I loved to eat it.

3. Was based on a negative body image 'platform' (belief system) that considered my weight, size and shape was all wrong.

4. Contained a database of negative messages that I was not 'good enough' to be loved, and distributed them constantly.

5. Picked up all external messages that reinforced that I was not 'good enough' and added them to the database.

6. Easily stored negative and unhappy memories.

7. Made the storage of positive and joyous memories difficult and inaccessible for quick retrieval.

8. Easily triggered the rebellious 'child within me', giving permission for me to eat whatever and whenever I wanted.

9. Prevented me from connecting my mind to my body.

10. Triggered binge eating as a means of avoiding my emotions and the truth within them that was there for me to learn from.

This was obviously a virus-riddled programme and the awful thing was, I had created it for myself! So that was the key. If I had created it for myself I could definitely repair it. All I had to do was develop an anti-virus that created exactly the opposite thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours from my list above.

No it is not a 'quick fix' but as we know they never work out well in the long run. It certainly has been life and weight changing though.

By answering the question yourself you will also have the basis from which to modify your present programme, rebuilding your machine without all its negative viruses.

Considering Quick Weight Loss Programs?

Most people agree, sure, there's a time and place for moderate, slow-results diets, but if you're out of shape and have a deadline to look better, quick weight loss is what you're after. No matter how tight your deadline is, it never helps to panic. Quick weight loss is a goal you can achieve, and there are a few ways to get there. Remember, extreme results are never easy, but then again what goal was ever worth reaching that was easy? Where do you go? Not the bookstore. Most of those diets are more mainstream, "lifestyle fitness" kinds of books that aren't catered to the extreme reader who really wants quick weight loss as a result.

Okay, so at a very minimum, you need to keep track of ALL calories you're taking in. Set a daily quota, and don't go over it. I don't know what your limit should be of course; that will depend on your size, weight, and typical diet up until now. Your plan of action for quick weight loss will be tweaked more to your individual circumstances. Absolutely take into account your lifestyle. If you work in an office all day, sitting down, it should be lower. More active people might want to allow for a little more. Spread the calories out properly throughout the day as well. It makes much more sense to have three to five evenly sized meals than skipping breakfast, having a light lunch, then gorging yourself for dinner. That's a recipe for hunger pains and being bloated, rather than quick weight loss. Start reading food labels as well. I tell all of my clients to stay away from anything hydrogenated, even though the bad publicity is forcing most companies to cut back on trans fat anyway. Serving size can be misleading if you're looking for quick weight loss, because since the mid 1990's, the FDA standard (if you're in the US at least) has been based on a 3,000 calorie diet. The Calorie-Count website is great for keeping track of all of this. Keeping track of everything is one sure way to achieve your quick weight loss goal. I like how a bodybuilder friend of mine put it, "If you don't track it, you didn't do it."

Liquids are another important part of this quick weight loss goal. Nothing carbonated. These just contain a lot of sodium and force your body to retain water, derailing your efforts to be more active. More and more authorities on nutrition and general medicine recommend green tea and water. Full grown adults should take in two liters of liquids each day (about three-quarters of a gallon). If you're serious about your quick weight loss goal, you might want to stay as close to that amount as possible.

And no matter what kind of quick weight loss program you get into, you just can't take physical exercise out of the equation. While some people hope to, jumping from one silly "lemonade cleansing" diet to the next "low carb" craze, they can never figure out why they stay in bad shape. Try to stick to activities you enjoy, that way you'll at least have a shot of keeping up with them. Most people are surprised by how much they can actually work more physical activity into their regular days. You can skip the elevator, ride a bike to work, or walk if it's feasible. If you're in an office go out during the day whenever you can, even if it's just to walk around. So you can combine decent physical exertion with an effective diet, and you'll realize your quick weight loss goal faster than you probably thought possible.

But even with all of this in mind, most quick weight loss programs are more of a "'last ditch effort" kind of thing. You can lose muscle tissue as well if your body isn't properly nourished. Most people want to avoid the negative image of looking "sickly", or "weak" when they drop several pounds quickly. That's why adequate nutrition is essential. The best all-natural diet programs are the best place to start if you're looking for the right fuel to keep you going in your quick weight loss objectives.
