The Secret of Weight Loss

In the medical community, "obesity" is generally said to be present in women with more than 30% body fat and men with more than 25% body fat. "Morbid obesity," a more serious condition still, occurs when a person is 50-100% or 100 pounds above his or her ideal body weight or has more than 39% body fat. Medical problems commonly associated with morbid obesity include diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, certain cancers (including breast and colon cancer), depression, and osteoarthritis.

Obesity among the American population is a serious epidemic. The results of a 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey indicate that an estimated 64% of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese.

Millions of people approach weight control, focusing on the symptom. The symptom being the weight itself. These people put all their energy into baking it off, working it off, starving it off, or all kinds of fad diets.

They all experience the ups and downs on the weight charts and scale. This makes for a lot of upset and depressed people who think that they will never solve the problem of eliminating, permanently, those excess pounds and inches.

The only time that anyone has to be concerned with weight control is when they are eating. The fact of the matter is that people are concerned with weight before they eat and they beat themselves up after they eat. While people are eating there is no concern.

We spend a small amount of time each day eating and that is the only time that people have to increase their conscious awareness and focus on developing proper eating habits.

If you are overweight, you may be so because you formed a habit of eating improperly.

By re-educating your eating habits, you will find that you still enjoy eating and for much more positive reasons. You'll eliminate weight -- and you won't regain it.

The plan is very basic, simple, and easy. Every week, for a period of six weeks, you are going to practice a new and different mental exercise to help you change your eating habits.

WEEK ONE: Sit down to eat and drink. Even if it's only a piece of gum or a sip of water, sit down! This will help eliminate the unconscious snacking that is so much a part of being overweight. This also eliminates tasting foods for those who cook.

WEEK TWO: Relax! Take a minute to breathe comfortably and be thankful for the food in front of you. This will help you become aware of the foods that you eat and the way in which you eat them.

WEEK THREE: Chew your food well. Sip your drinks. Take small bites. Depending on what you are eating, chew from 25 to 40 times with each mouthful. By consuming small portions and eating more slowly, your taste buds will have a chance to get the full and wonderful flavor from the nutritious foods you are eating.

Your stomach will have a chance to tell your mind that you are full and satisfied and that you require a smaller amount of food than before. It can take the same amount of time to eat a small amount of food as it does to eat a large amount.

WEEK FOUR: Get rid of bad emotions and frustrations. if you have a problem or transaction that you are working on, clear your mind before you eat. Eating out of frustration is a very common bad habit.

WEEK FIVE: Think about the food you eat, especially the flavor.

WEEK SIX: Leave something on your plate (besides your fork). Were conditioned to clean everything from our plates and programmed to believe that cleaning our plates will help starving children elsewhere in the world or that its a sin to waste food.

OTHER ATTITUDES TO CONSIDER

1. Refer to diets as menus.

2. Refer to losing weight as eliminating weight permanently.

3. Use smaller plates and glasses.

4. Serve yourself smaller portions.

5. Use one room in the house in which to eat, perhaps even one chair.

6. Keep a diary of the food you eat.

In addition to these exercises, it is important that you utilize the techniques learned in altered- states (hypnosis) to effect habit change and visualize exactly the way you want to look.

Imagine yourself standing on your bathroom scale and looking down at the weight you want to be.

Some sample weight control suggestions:

1. I weigh ___ pounds and am slim, healthy, and attractive.

2. I eat only those healthful, nutritious foods that allow me to maintain my weight at ___ pounds.

3. I eat my meals slowly and enjoy every bite. I taste and savor my food better than ever before.

4. The desire to eliminate fat from my body is stronger than ever before. I am, on a daily basis, eating less and enjoying food more, and the desire to eliminate weight is stronger than the desire to eat.

5. I see myself as being slim, trim, firm and solid. I think thin.

6. I am staying satisfied for longer periods of time. The desire to eliminate unnatural fat from my body is stronger than my desire to eat. I see fattening eating behavior and I have no desire to indulge in such behavior. I enjoy being slim, trim, thin and slender.

By utilizing these behavior modification suggestions you will completely re-educate your eating habits and will have formed a successful pattern for creating and maintaining a slim, trim, permanent new shape.

How to Reduce fat?

It is very obvious for anybody to gain pounds of weight during the holiday time. But holidays can be spent constructively too. Turbulence program is a course designed for the purpose of loosing maximum fat and gaining strength. There are 6 ways to improve your overall physic and make a promising resolution on the New Years Day.

Strength training is a different exercise from the rest where you perform a workout within a short duration. If you are performing about three repetitions per day of a particular workout, you will be performing it only one here. But you will reap the same advantages here too. You will be maintaining your average strength but at the same time saving your time.

During the program schedule do not consume anything junk but only concentrate on the efficiency of the exercise.

Before beginning any workout you need to spend some time doing warm-up exercises and then start your workout on a treadmill. Even in weekends do not let your time for lame enjoyment but spend at least some bit of time for performing the workouts. This maintains the strength in your body.

When you exercise remember that your abdominal cavity is being exercised. The sit-ups are simply an ache to the lower back. Therefore all the standing exercises, pushups or squats are extremely workable.

Before entering into the gym remember to bring the turbulence training templete with you. It should not merely happen that you do not even understand how to start the workouts. It provides a table for systematically performing the workouts.

The Liver - An Important Key To Natural Weight Loss

You may be aware that the liver is an important organ in keeping you healthy, but many people fail to recognize the importance of the liver in weight loss. While the liver is needed to detoxify various chemicals such as alcohol and drugs, it also has critical functions in the production and/or activation of many hormones - including all of the hormones involved in your ability to burn fat. Natural weight loss is dramatically impaired if the liver is not working efficiently.

Due to chronic abuse of the liver through things like heavy alcohol use, using medications and drugs, and bad eating habits, especially an overconsumption of fats and heavy animal-based proteins, the liver can become overloaded and irritation can result. This results in an inflammatory response in the abominal cavity, which results in an accumulation of fluid (called ascites). As the retained fluids collect in the stomach area, the stomach will often begin to protrude outward, producing the appearance that is sometimes called a "beer belly". In women, the problem can get bad enough that the protruding belly makes them look pregnant when they are not. For people with this water weight deposition, weight loss can be frustrating because exercise will not "burn it off" - because it's not fat. Since natural weight loss approaches fail to get results in these situations, some people resort to diet drugs, which may work at first, but ultimately harm the liver even more and create even more abdominal water retention.

With liver-related water retention, many diet programs and weight loss aids also actually make things worse. Diets that are high in protein and fat, such as Atkin's, further overload the liver and create even more water retention. Some weight loss aids contain drugs or chemicals that the liver must process, and again, create even more liver irritation and subsequent water retention.

In addition to the water retention issue, good liver function is necessary for the proper production and/or activation of the hormones that stimulate fat burning. For instance, the liver is needed to convert the inactive form of thyroid hormone (T4) to the active form (T3). When the liver is overworked and cannot do the hormone conversions efficiently, the body cannot burn fat efficiently, no matter how much exercise you may do or what other natural weight loss steps you take.

The liver also produces a fat-burning hormone of its own, called insulin-like growth factor (IGF). IGF controls blood sugar during the relatively long-period that you go without eating during sleep. As your blood sugar level falls while you are sleeping, the liver produces IGF to burn fat reserves to mobilize stored energy. Again, if liver function is not as good as it should be, this hormone is not produced efficiently and you don't burn as much fat. The other thing that occurs is that your blood sugar will go lower than it should and you wake up in the morning feeling very fatigued and irritable.

At this point you may be wondering what steps you need to take to help improve liver function to help alleviate abdominal water retention and to help better activate your fat burning hormones to stimulate natural weight loss? To begin with, it is important to reduce the detoxification load on the liver. This means cutting back on alcohol and any unnecessary drugs and medications. If possible, I recommend avoiding alcohol and non-essential medications entirely for at least a few weeks to give the liver an opportunity to recover.

The next step is to clean up you diet to make things as easy as possible on the liver. Probably the simplest and most effective approach is to eat pretty much a vegetarian diet for 14 to 21 days, sticking to mostly fresh vegetables and fresh fruit and using beans, seeds, nuts, and nut and seed butters as your main protein sources. If you can't do that, it is advisable to at least cut out fried and greasy foods and high-fat meats for a while. The better your diet, the faster you'll lose the retained water in the abdomen and the faster you'll make real progress on losing weight.

There are various "liver de-tox" products on the market that contain some combination of herbs and/or nutrients that are reputed to be beneficial for the liver. These can be useful in more extreme cases or for those who simply aren't willing to take the dietary and other lifestyle measures just described. In my opinion, changing the diet and implementing the other natural weight loss lifestyle factors is a much more effective way to go, but using a liver detoxification product is probably better than doing nothing. Because some of these products contain herbs that can interact with certain prescription medications, it is strongly recommended that you consult with a physician or a pharmacist before using any of these products if you are on prescription drugs.

In addition to weight loss, as liver function improves, your skin usually becomes clearer and your mood and energy level will typically improve, especially in the morning. People with chronic headaches often notice that the headaches become less frequent and may go away altogether. In addition, pains in the right shoulder and shoulder blade area can be referred from the liver and some people experience relief of these pains as the health of the liver improves.

It should be noted that as the liver recovers and the body stops retaining water in the abdomen, you will typically lose weight very rapidly (it could be 5 pounds or more per day!) and you will need to urinate frequently (that's how the body gets rid of the excess water). Once the extra water is gone, the weight loss will slow down. If you continue on a natural weight loss program, a reasonable expectation after you have lost the water weight is about 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Calorie Shifting - The New Weight Loss Sensation Sweeping the Nation

Calorie Shifting is becoming one of the fastest growing weight loss sensations because is works on a theory that actually makes sense. Most low calorie, low carb, low fat, diets basically fail because your body realizes one thing when you are on one of these diets: It realizes that you're starving yourself (in a matter of speaking) by taking in low amounts of calories. Your body's natural reaction to this is to slow down your metabolism, stop burning calories, and actually to start storing fat! It's a protection we have to make us survive if we were in fact, starving

Calorie shifting is a way to keep your body confused and to keep your metabolism from slowing down. They way it works is you are constantly rotating the food types you eat each day fooling your metabolism so that it continues to burn calories and fat. Your body only knows what has happened in the past, so basically your metabolism is based on the foods you ate and calorie intake from the past few days. Eating foods using the calorie shifting theory is best so that your metabolism doesn't get used to any specific routine. Basically, you're keeping your body's metabolism on it's feet and by doing so, you will not only burn all of the calories you are taking in each day, but you will also start to burn fat which is exactly what you want to do.

The best part about this diet program is that you are not left feeling like you're starving because you are supposed to eat four different times per day. This keeps you feeling full all day and you are essentially taking in less calories per meal. The software system that is available for doing this program comes with an online diet generator. This diet generator asks you to choose from over 40 different foods that you most likely eat every day and in just seconds, it creates a calorie shifting meal plan for you. This meal program is for 11 days and is by Fat Loss for Idiots. You can lose up to 9 pounds every time you do this diet program. The way it is supposed to be done is start the program, follow it to a tee for the 11 days, take 3 days off where you can eat whatever you like (let's be honest here, what this means is whatever you want that's still a bit healthy...don't run to the fast food joint and order 4 big macs). After the 3 day break, you then start the diet all over again.

The 3 day break is actually part of the calorie shifting diet. You continue to confuse your body's metabolism during this period. I recommend doing this diet at least 3 times or until your desired weight loss goal.

Learn more about how you too can use the calorie shifting theory to your advantage to lose weight and look great this year at http://www.calorieshiftingtheory.com Enhance this amazing program by doing a little Turbulence Training.

Calorie Shifting Weight Loss Secrets Revealed

Have you heard of the calorie shifting dieting method for weight loss? You most probably have, as it is fast becoming the most popular way of weight loss today. This unique dieting method claims to achieve fast and healthy weight loss, but does it really work? This article will expose the diet, and tell you whether it is right for you.

1. What Is Calorie Shifting Like?

This method works on the fact that your body will respond by increasing its metabolism and burning more fats when you shift the calories in your diet. This means that you will be changing what you eat every day while you are on the plan. You will also not need to stop eating and starve, which will only hinder your efforts to lose weight.

2. Why Is Calorie Shifting Better Than Other Forms Of Dieting?

One of the best aspects of this diet method is that it will ensure that you will not regain the weight that you lose after the diet. Unlike many other diet plans that only give you temporary weight loss, calorie shifting allows you to keep losing more weight if you adhere to its meal plans.

On top of that, you will not be depriving your body of any necessary nutrients that are essential for your body health.

3. Should You Try The Calorie Shifting Weight Loss Method?

This is one of the best diets that I tried, because it does not make me get cravings for any types of foods, and the meal plans and eating frequencies are very easy to stick to. All the essential diet ingredients, including vegetables, fruits, proteins and carbohydrates, will be used in this diet plan. New Year's Resolutions

It's that time of year again, when many people in the United States start making New Year's resolutions. Many times, these are related to weight and health or fitness. There is always a tendency to overeat and eat things that aren't necessarily good for you during the holidays.

What happens this year will be the same thing that invariably happens every year: lots of people will join gyms. Many will also start new diets. Unfortunately for most, by February, the new exercise routines and diets will already be history, and all of the old habits will have crept back into their lives.

The biggest problem is that the new routines are such a radical change from the old ones that each person has trouble keeping up. Change is better when it is gradual, or done in a way that doesn't interfere too much with the old routine. If you want the results, you have to make the changes.

There are lots of little ways to adjust your eating and exercise habits. Subtle ways of change that you barely notice, but add up to more fitness and pounds lost over time. In my new e-book, Simple Weight Loss (www.simpleweightlossbook.com) I discuss many easy to implement ways to lose weight and get fit, while barely noticing the changes to your lifestyle.

The biggest hurdle to overcome is your perception of yourself. You have probably gotten used to what you look like, and whether you like it or not, that's what you see in your mind. You have to visualize constantly what you will look like after the changes. Professional athletes have been using visualization for years to improve themselves. In a less-extreme way, you can do that for yourself. Once you have changes your view of what you should look like, then the weight loss and fitness goals will come much easier.

New Years Weight Loss

Many people in America struggle with their weight. This struggle often intensifies with the coming of the New Year and the resolutions we all make. In the midst of the pressure to resolve or enhance one's life, many dieters feel like they should try to make yet another attempt at a New Years weight loss program. However, this attempt normally comes out of a quick and pressured decision to get on the resolution bandwagon and shed those extra pounds. As a result, most New Years weight loss programs only last for at most a few months before we end up going back to our old eating habits, and we once again bid adieu to our resolution to have a new body, new weight, more energy and healthier eating plan.

This year, try to prepare in advance. Go into the dieting season with a plan of action, goals and dedication to your goals. Here are some ideas:

Tips on how to make the right diet resolutions -

1) Prepare in advance. Many people fail in their New Years weight loss programs because they choose a diet in haste and don't have enough information and they don't understand the diet concepts.

2) Play matchmaker. The first step in creating a personalized weight loss plan is understanding your dieting style. Here are some questions to help you choose the right weight loss program for your needs.

A) What type of foods do you like?

B) Are you willing to alter your eating habits?

C) Are you willing to engage in regular physical activity?

D) Do you lead a busy lifestyle?

E) Are you looking to lose weight and then maintain that weight loss?

F) Why do you want to go on a diet?

3) Educate yourself. Now that you have answered the above questions, you probably have a good idea as to how, when and why you diet. These answers are important as they provide road signs pointing to what diet may be right for you.

For example, if you like eating all foods and want a flexible and long-term diet then it's likely the Weight Watchers diet is a good fit. Alternatively, if you like eating lots of meat, fish, cheese and eggs then the South Beach Diet plan may be for you. The fact is there are many diets; it's more a matter of finding the right one for you, than listening to what other people have done. Choosing a well-matched diet for your individual tastes and character and this will give you greater chances of weight loss success.

4) Don't set your sights too high. When dieting, it's important to take baby-steps and work up to your goal rather than setting a far-reaching goal the very first time. Therefore, to ensure you're successful, set attainable monthly goals. If you're not sure what to shoot for, one pound per week, or 4 pounds per month is a good weight loss pace.

5) Finally, Embrace your decision. Once you've become acquainted with your dieting personality, educated yourself on the many weight loss programs and weight loss products available, chosen the one that suits you best and set realistic goals you're in a much better position to diet. So make your diet plan, pat yourself on the back, embrace your decision to lose weight healthily and get started.

Dieting for weight loss management and better health is a gift. There are many people in the world who don't even have enough food to eat on a day to day basis, therefore, this year look at dieting from a completely different perspective. Consider your ability to diet, eat well and select healthy foods a blessing rather than a chore.

Check out Diet Concepts for tips on different diets as well as recipes and diet plans.

Weight Loss Tip #4 - Count the Once-in-a-While's

I was 25 pounds over my comfortable weight and had been trying to lose for many months. I was very conscious of what I was eating, but did not want to suffer on a restrictive diet. So, I was letting myself have special treats "once in a while". My attempts at losing weight just were not making the scale budge at all. What was the deal?

What I later realized was that the 'once-in-a-while's add up quickly! I knew that I rarely ate 'junk food' like candy bars or cakes, donuts or desserts. So I figured having them once in a while wouldn't do much harm. I had an almond joy one day in January because I knew it had been at least six months since I did anything like that. I had a piece of birthday cake at an office party later that week because I almost never ate cake at home. I had dessert out at a restaurant that Friday night because it was extremely rare that we would order anything after dinner. I had french fries on the side when we ate out on the weekend because I knew it was so seldom I ate them. But in doing so, I neglected to realize I had added another third of a pound to my body weight over just that week!

My warped sense of 'dieting' went on through the months; observing what I ate, observing the scale not budging. "I can drive through McDonald's today on my way to the library because I haven't eaten here in at least two weeks". "We can order chinese food tonight because it's been three weeks since we did that". "Ordering a pizza sounds convenient for dinner, and I know we haven't had pizza for almost two weeks". "Donuts? I almost never eat them--I'll just have a little treat today". Another pound not lost that week.

Think about how many times you are eating a food that you know is too high in calories to allow you to proceed with your weight loss regimen. Most of the clients I meet with have the same story as I did: Shaking their head, they tell me "I rarely eat fast food, pizza, desserts, cookies, chips--Maybe just once in a while". Chances are, you may be eating a "once-in-a-while" food once a month, and you may have 30 of these foods on your list. That means every day you are eating one of these foods you know are not a good idea to eat. Every day you are adding 300 or 400 calories to your dietary intake. That means if you stop having these calorie-dense foods, you can lose three or four pounds this month! Not by dieting, not by starving, not by adhering to a strict regimen. Just by thinking about these splurges and going one more day without them.

My suggestion is to have a 'once-in-a-while' day' once a week. Choose a day you'd like--let's say Sunday. Your plan is, Monday through Saturday you watch what you eat, make healthy choices, have plenty of fruits, vegetables, water, lean meats, low fat dairy products, whole grain breads and cereals, and very low calorie desserts like diet jello or a 100 calorie package of cookies if you get a sweet tooth. Sunday you can have your 'once-in-a-while' treat: order a pizza, go to a chinese restaurant (I did not say buffets, there!), enjoy a piece of homemade pie or cake at a family get together, go out for breakfast, or go to your favorite fast food place and enjoy one of their meals (not super-sized, of course). Choose ONE of these treats and relish the taste, knowing you were not ingesting all this fat and salt during the week, and knowing that truly having this food you like just once in a while is not unreasonable and will not make you fat.

Then go back to your well-balanced healthy eating habits on Monday, knowing you satisfied your craving and you can enjoy another treat next weekend. It's not about deprivation, it's about moderation!

6 Weight Loss Secrets Revealed!

Eating is great, but getting fat and staying that way is not cool. Here are six ways to fire up you fat burning 2007 resolution.

Tip Number 1:

Eat to lose...and Lift to lose.huh? I know, it is hard to convince you that you have to eat to lose fat. Yes eating the right foods to maintain your metabolism will keep you in fat dropping mode. I know its also tougher to convince you that you have to lift weights to drop the fat and to lose weight. What you are use to, is someone telling you that you have to jog around the park, or take brisk walks to burn the fat, that is true too. However, every thing helps and eating the right food and lifting weight, is an excellent combination. In reality, strength training has the power to keep your body burning fat for up to 2 days after the work out. You read that right, 2 days after a strength training workout, you body is still in weight losing mode.

Tip Number 2:

Use it lightly......Saturated Fat This type of fat is found in meat and diary products. Do you need it in your diet? well, let see, technically you do not. However, they are important for body cell structures especially the testosterone levels in men. Other than this, you need to reduce the amount of saturated fat you consume. Read the label people , the label will tell you. If its 5% or more, do not eat it - Simple and sweet.

Tip Number 3:

Stay away from the other bad foods..... Trans fat. Trans fat as the name suggest, is artificial fat. It is fat transformed from one fat to the next. Food to stay away from, are Margarine, French fries and processed foods. Just look on the label for "partially hydrogenated food and you got it, Trans fat. Let us put it this way, all the issues that saturated fat is blamed for is caused by Tans fat. It is just not a required fat, it is more for taste and comfort but not nutritional value.

Tip Number 4:

Rev up you work out.... Jump rope style If you go to the gym, or the park, pick up a jump rope to rev up your workout. You will burn calories for hours after the jumping session. Skip for 2-3 minutes, rest for 1 minute , repeat 3 times per session and 2-3 times per week. You will be amaze at the effect this will have on your total weight loss program.

Tip Number 5:

Focus on small baby steps Focus on making small changes each step of the way. For most people, successful weight loss involves not only a diet change, but a lifestyle change as well. Since this can be overwhelming for some, it is best to take baby steps. For instance, instead of signing-up for a full year's membership at a gym, go for a few months or try walking in the neighborhood three times a week for thirty minutes. Once this is done habitually it becomes part of one's lifestyle.

Tip Number 6:

Heads up ..be positive... its a lifestyle..not a fad Be positive! Do not say you are going to lose weight, instead say I am going to improve my fitness, improve my health, lose weight and feel great."

The definitive way to lose weight and keep it off is by eating smart and exercising on a regular basis. Take full control of your eating and you will begin to see the effects on your body - slowly and steadily. You will lose weight by eating, by being more active or preferably by doing both. Do not skip any meals. Lose weight by eating. To lose weight safely, effectively, and for the long term - you need to truly commit to eating and exercising consistently. Eating more often, not less is the way to lose weight.

Sensible Weight Loss Whilst Breast Feeding

Many women have a hard time losing weight post pregnancy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"I've always believed if it took you 9 months to gain it, give yourself 9 months to get rid of it"

Have NO high expectations of this quick weight loss diets and fads, as it could be detrimental to your health and of your child's. Enjoy the time you have with no worry or hassles in the first few weeks as this time is best spent bonding with your new baby, and for you to recover mentally and physically after the birth.

Breastfeeding is the most natural and healthy way of nourishing your new baby. A mother's breast milk provides sufficient nutrients and a certain amount of antibodies from the mother that may help the baby to resist infections.

A mother has to eat double the amount of calories per day to sustain a high quality supply of breast milk. But don't let that fool you into eating whatever is in sight. By simply making sure that you remain well nourished by eating a healthy diet, gentle exercise and eating small snacks regularly and at least drinking 2 litres of water a day.

These things combined have shown to assist in gradual weight loss whilst providing an adequate supply of quality breast milk for your baby.

Breast milk is the primary source of food for a baby up until the age of 6mths that's when the infants iron stores are starting to run low. This is when solids are slowly introduced.

During this 6 month period and beyond, breastfeeding has many health benefits for the mother. One being the closeness that a mother and baby feel while feeding, the calming effect it has on him/her and the retracting of the mother's uterus, back to post pregnancy size.

For many mothers breastfeeding along with a healthy diet is the perfect combination for steady weight loss.

Breastfeeding places a great demand on mother's blood sugar supply and if the diet is not adequate in complex carbohydrate foods, sugar cravings and extreme hunger may occur.

Tips On Fast Weight Loss For Special Occasions

If you are like me, you have probably been through all this before, the family wedding is coming up next month and you can't seem to fit into that suit or dress because you have put on too much weight. So you must lose at least ten or more pounds quickly.

Losing weight quickly is not advisable as most of the loss will be muscle tissue and water; you put on the weight slowly (usually over years) so normally you should take it off slowly and then you will know that the majority of the loss will be body fat.

But you have a problem here and the clock is ticking so you will have to diet pretty hard to meet your target weight loss. Let's look at that first, you all know that diets don't work; they send the body into starvation mode, a survival mechanism from long age when humans faced periods of famine.

Going too low in calories causes the body to lower its metabolic rate, which reduces its ability to burn fat. At the same time, hunger signals increase and you quickly start to crave high-energy foods loaded with fats and sugar, the same foods you are trying to do without.

Research shows repeated dieting actually makes it harder to lose weight and easier to put it on because when you dump the diet and return to normal eating habits the drop in metabolic rate caused by the diet means that your old habits actually represent an excess in calories.

Not only do you regain the fat stores just lost, but also you may even gain an extra bit.

Knowing this, you really don't want to put yourselves through this rigorous process, but for this special occasion you will. First though, you will have to boost the metabolism that has been lowered by the dieting.

To do this you will have to perform a "Strength Training" workout to generate that initial spike in your metabolism. By increasing the lean muscle on your body by using Strength Training, your metabolism will increase, burning fat along the way.

The strength training technique I use requires just twenty to thirty mins per week. Gone are the days of the five-day a week program with 6 to 12 sets per body part that, method has never worked.

One short intense strength-training workout a week will elevate your metabolism more than you ever thought possible.

While the calories expended doing exercise are important, the increase in metabolism especially after strength training continues long after the exercise is finished, burning calories at the same time.

The two main components of this technique are the intensity of the exercise and the recovery after the exercise.

Infrequent, short, high intensity weight training sessions, followed by the required amount of time to recover and become stronger is what is needed to increase functional lean muscle and lose body fat.

Small frequent meals should be consumed during the day each containing a little protein to maintain muscle mass and energy levels. A high quality broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement should also be taken on a daily basis.

As before get the calories from high quality food but if you can't, utilize a blender to make concoctions from skim milk with whatever additives you want to use, just as long as you keep count of the calories for your daily total.

Now use these blender mixtures and solid food for your daily feedings. Spread it out over many small meals a day instead of the traditional three meals a day. The way to keep track of weight loss is to buy a calorie counter and record your daily calorie intake for a week.

Now average out how many calories you consume a day with the use of a seven-day eating plan and calorie counter, once you have this figure subtract 1000 calories and this will be the target number of calories you will be aiming for.

Remembering that one-pound of fat contains 3500cals, losing 1000 calories a day will total 7000 for the week, which equals two pounds lost by dietary means alone. Another technique for low calorie eating is to watch your fat intake as this has the most calories.

Incidental activity is also very important if you want to lose this amount of weight in this short period of time, by increasing incidental activity you can burn at least another pound a week The best exercise for the purpose of fat-loss is fast walking either indoors on the treadmill or outdoors.

Walk until you are mildly puffing and hold that rate until the allotted time. If your aerobic activities leave you panting or breathless, your going too hard, your energy is coming from your carbohydrate reserves and not from your fat stores. Try fast walking for one hour a day every day of the week.

Well there you have it, as an experienced trainer I wouldn't recommend this type of program to my clients. The weight loss is just too quick and the program would be very hard to maintain owing to the very low caloric intake.

I advise my clients to decrease their calories by just 500 per day (and no more) below their maintenance levels and they will be losing 1 - 2 pounds of body fat every week, safely, without craving and without too much disruption to their lifestyle.

In conclusion remember, think long term here and that's between 30 and 50 pounds of fat lost in six months. Any faster and all you will be losing is water and precious muscle tissue.

Successful Weight Loss Program That Can Flush Out Toxins

Shedding thirty to forty pounds in a span of thirty days or less can be something of a feat for most people. If you are an overweight person, there is a big chance that you are a lover of food; and cutting back the extra baggage at such rate and in such time is like inviting a whale to walk on land. But it's true; there are many ways that can allow you to lose weight at this incredible pace. And one of these methods is juice fasting.

As the name suggests, this kind of diet makes use of water and the juices made from raw vegetables and fruits instead of solid food. It requires that nothing except juice and water must be consumed for a period ranging from three to thirty days depending on the length of the program you want to adopt. Followers of this method choose fruits, vegetables and water because they are excellent sources of vitamins, fiber, antioxidants, and other minerals. Juice fasting is proven to benefit the body in a number of ways other than as a weight loss approach.

Detoxifies The Body

Absorbing nothing but pulped raw vegetables and fruits and water, your body will have an easy time digesting and cleaning out your system; as such, your organs will be able to focus in pushing out the toxins that have accumulated in your system. Most importantly, the minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients found in most vegetables and fruits are filled with cleansing and healing features that can knockout the toxins in your body.

Increases Vitality

Juice fasting has been proven to increase the vitality of all those who follow the diet. And it does not matter if you are twenty or seventy years old, as long as you have the will power to consume nothing but the natural goodness of juiced raw vegetables and fruits for a few days, you can look forward to a more intensified energy level.

The increased vitality that you will experience after undergoing juice fasting results from the deep cleansing that your body organs will be going through. With the absence of toxins, all the important systems in your body will be pepped up to function at their peak. Besides, all the nutrients from the vegetables and fruits that you will consume are more than enough to give you the oomph you need.

Burns Down Fat

Juice fasting is an extreme form of fasting. Since it requires that no solid food must be eaten for several days, your daily caloric requirements will not be met even if you have the right nutrients and vitamins. In effect, juice fasting, like all other forms of fasting, will enable your body to burn down fat to be used as extra fuel for your body. The more amounts of fat that you burn for the entire duration of your juice fasting, the more pounds will be shaved off your body.

With all these benefits from juice fasting, it is not hard to imagine how many people have tried to use this approach not only for cleansing the body of toxins, but in losing weight as well. But this approach is not without drawbacks. Juice fasting can create health complications if you are not careful or properly informed about the whole process of this diet program.

For instance, if you are pregnant or nursing your child, juice fasting is definitely not a good idea for you. Children and people who are afflicted with major diseases like epilepsy, diabetes, and hepatitis should not be allowed to try juice fasting. Also, if you are under medication, you should know that the medicines you take may draw out unwanted reaction from your body if you are under this diet.

If you really want to lose weight without risking your overall health, you can always make use of the products that are specifically designed to cut down your weight. Not all weight loss products have bad side effects. Just be sure to choose one that does not compromise your health.

Weight Loss With No More Guilt

I have just had a lovely weekend with old friends at one of the Proms in the Park. The food that we all took to share, yet again was supplied in an over abundance, as was the wine!

The evening was wonderful and at this year's event I enjoyed myself even more because...

There was no more guilt!

Have you ever wondered what it is that keeps you trapped, unable to re-motivate yourself when you had eaten something 'bad'?

It is the pattern of guilt . . .

- The thoughts that you 'shouldn't have eaten...'

- The shame of eating too much;

- The thought of how much weight you have put on;

- The thought of how 'bad', weak willed and useless you are.

With these thoughts you keep yourself trapped in a pattern of behaviour that brings only stress and the inevitable comfort eating. Its no wonder life is a struggle and permanent weight loss so elusive when your life is dominated by shame and guilt!

So here's how you stop the guilt...

Reflect on how much you enjoyed the food;

Tell yourself you are allowed to enjoy it;

Remember, one meal of excess won't be noticed on your hips;

Remember your motivation comes from positive thoughts;

Reflect on how much you enjoy the foods that gives you energy and happiness (your special fuel mix);

Reflect that without guilt there is no need to comfort eat;

Feel the motivation to eat the foods that lift your spirits.

Once in a while it is not 'bad' to eat foods that you have, in the past, labelled negatively. They may not be the best of fuel for your body but on a rare occasion it is not 'bad' to enjoy them. So enjoy them and see how easy it is to get back on track with you healthier eating habits.

Weight Training for Weight Loss: Start Now

If youre already exercising and eating right with the aim of slimming down, heres something you might not have thought of that can help you achieve your goal: weight training.

Weight training refers to working out with weights, whether dumbbells and barbells (free weights) or the weights you find on exercise contraptions, that you lift by means of pulleys and cables.

If youre currently walking or running or doing other cardiovascular exercise to take off fat, you might think weights would not add anything to your efforts. After all, youre burning off calories either way, right?

Done correctly, though, weight training willbring a dimension to your workout that goes beyond calorie burn-off. It will sharpen and define your muscles, which will make you look and feel leaner even before youve reached your ideal weight target.

Not only will working out with weights make you look better in the eyes of others, it will help motivate you to keep working toward your goal.

Here are some tips for anyone considering weight training for weight loss:

1. Dont spend a lot of money on equipment, at least to begin with.

A basic set of dumbbells in a few different weights will get you started, and may be all you ever need. For the average person who hasnt had much strength training, I recommend purchasing two each of the following size dumbbells: 8 (or 10) pounds, 15 pounds, and 20 (or 25) poundsthat's six dumbbells in all.

Later on you can add a barbell with a set of adjustable weights if you like. However, I recommend getting an adjustable incline/decline bench to use with your dumbbells before spending for a barbell. A bench and dumbbells will equip you to perform nearly all the weight training exercises that you need if your main goal is weight loss (as opposed to trying to look like Mr. Universe).

Fancy workout machines are greatand expensive! If you have access to a gym then by all means take advantage ofsuch equipment. But don't think that you need it in order to get a good workout.

2. Buy or borrow a good illustrated instructional book on weight lifting. Look for one targeted toward average people--people who just want to get fit or get into shape--rather than toward competitive bodybuilders.

In line with tip #1, also make sure that the book you use contains exercises you can do with dumbbells alone, and that work all parts of your body.

If you wish to make maximum progress, I strongly recommend that you also read a book on the general subject of weight loss. Avoid the fad diet of the moment. Look for a book grounded in good science, that contains practical advice for nutritional and lifestyle changes that lead to permanent fat loss. (Some excellent books in this line are actually available as downloads from the Internet.)

3. Work out with your weights regularly. If all you have is 20 minutes every Monday, then make and keep that weekly appointment with yourself.

If you have more time, here's what I consider to be an ideal "weight training for weight loss" schedule. It will give excellent results with a time commitment that is still reasonable:

Monday: 10 minutes of cardio exercise + 20 to 30 minutes' weight training

Tuesday: 10 to 20 minutes of cardio

Wednesday: 10 minutes of cardio exercise + 20 to 30 minutes' weight training

Thursday: 10 to 20 minutes of cardio

Friday: 10 minutes of cardio exercise + 20 to 30 minutes' weight training

Saturday & Sunday: Nothing! Or, better, work in a couple of brisk walks around the neighborhood.

Important: Always put at least one day between your weight training days. Never work out with weights on consecutive days, even if you're tempted to do so. When you exercise with weights you are actually tearing down muscle so that it can rebuild itself stronger and bigger. Those in-between days are your muscles' crucial rebuilding days.

4. Use the right number of exercise sets for weight loss--not for bodybuilding.

Not one in a hundred exercisers understands this point. But now you will!

When you work out with weights, you convert a certain amount of fat to muscle. Muscle weighs something, too, though. If your goal is to lose weight, you don't want to end up with a pound of muscle for every pound of fat you started with. You would be more muscular for sure, but you would still be overweight!

The key is to do fewer sets of a given exercise than is called for in "regular" or non-weight-loss-oriented weight training.

The best instructional books give separate instructions for their workouts according to their reader's particular goal, whether that's to lose pounds, to build the biggest muscles possible, or something in between. If the book you're using does not offer this, you can make the adjustment yourself.

Keep in mind that a set contains a certain number of repititions or "reps" of an exercise. A typical weight training book may instruct you to do 4 sets of a particular exercise, each set consisting of 10 reps, for a total of 40 reps. In this case you (as a weight loss exerciser) would do no more than 2 sets of 10 reps each, for a total of 20 reps maximum.

By throttling back to about half of the prescribed number of sets, you can be assured that you will be both building muscle and losing weight. (Alternately, you may want to keep the number of sets unchanged but do just half the number of reps per set.)

To be safe you can limit yourself to one set per exercise per workout session, regardless of what your book instructs. Trust me: As long as you're getting in your cardio sessions, too (and eating right, of course), you will lose weight--and you'll gain some nice, "ripped" muscles in the process.

How to Maintain Healthy Weight

There is nothing as frustrating as gaining weight after you worked so hard to lose it. It is a stab in the back, especially for those people who put so much time and effort to reach their goals but did not stick to a healthy lifestyle after attaining their desired weight. Once you have decided to take a big step and start living a healthy life, there is no turning back. Healthy habits should be part and parcel of your life.

Never skip your breakfast. Breakfast is the first meal of the day, and it gives you the energy you need to start the day. According to National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, people who do not skip their breakfast are less likely to snack during the day.

Eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. "Slow but sure" should be your slogan. The faster you eat, the more likely you are to overeat. Your brain needs about twenty minutes to register that you have had enough, which is why you even need to take a break before going for seconds.

Be active. This is one of the best ways to help you maintain healthy weight. Choose exercises that you enjoy--for example, walking, jogging, cycling, and aerobics--and have fun. Avoid spending hours watching TV or playing computer games.

Pack your fridge with healthy foods. Vegetables and fruits are good low-fat snacks. In fact, about 2 cups of fruits and 2-3 cups of vegetables a day help you not only lose weight but also stay healthy (fruits and vegetables are loaded with vitamins and minerals).

Do not eat if you are not hungry. Find other ways of relieving your stress: you can meditate or do yoga, take a walk outside and have a breath of fresh air.

Shifting Calories - Theory or Fact?

Shifting Calories is the latest buzz word in the weight loss field. While in the recent past, the most popular diets were based on the deprivation of either calories or a certain food group such as carbs, fat or protein, Shifting Calories provides an entirely different approach to weight loss, one which provides a fast and continuous fat loss.

Shifting Calories works by supplying you with a menu of healthy, balanced meals which contain food which is right for you to eat at certain hours of the day. These meals are then constantly shifted around so your metabolism never gets used to any eating routine. This is important because it was discovered that deprivation diets (low carb, low fat, and low calorie) cause your metabolism to slow down, so you may lose weight with these diets in the beginning, but it gets harder and harder to lose more with time, and it is also difficult to maintain what you lost. But shifting your calories insures that this won't happen to you.

Is this just a theory or is anyone actually using it?

Calorie Shifting has been used by tens of thousands of people around the world. In fact, one of the most popular diets today, the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet (also known as Weight Loss 4 Idiots) is based on it. To say it's a theory would be ridiculous as it has a proven track record with tons of satisfied customers.

Following the shifting calories is relatively easy, since you follow a predetermined menu. But it takes discipline. You have to stick to the menu and not deviate from it. However, if you do stick to it, you have every chance to succeed.

Why The Best Weight Loss Programs In The World Just Aren't Enough

I have read what I consider to be the best weight loss programs on the market. It took me awhile to find them, but in the end it was completely worth the money.

What about you?

Surely you've tried a few of the best weight loss programs out there, but maybe you have had no success. Maybe you lost a few pounds but then all of a sudden it came right back on and you gave up. If this is true, that's perfectly ok!

Almost everybody who starts out on a weight loss program has a hard time sooner or later. They're called plateau's. Everybody hits them, but only the best weight loss programs out there will tell you how to bust through them. But even that isn't enough. You can purchase some of the best weight loss programs ever created and still get no results.

Why?

Well there are 2 main reasons: not actually taking action and making it happen, and buying the wrong product. If you don't take action and actually do what the program says, obviously you aren't going to lose weight or gain muscle. It's not really rocket science, but sometimes people still don't get it!

Also, if you buy the wrong product for you it's also not going to work. This is because your either not going to stick with it (going back to the first reason) or it simply isn't the right kind of exercise for your goals. For example, if you're training to become an athlete but get a program saying to eat hardly any carbs, that isn't going to work!

Conversely, if you want to lose weight but the program says to eat a lot of carbs, that also isn't going to work. Finding a good weight loss program is a hard thing to do, and it should be researched. You should have a few options to pick from and all of them should be slightly different. If you have that situation going for you, you can pick and choose whatever one you'd like because one of them should fit your needs.

The best weight loss programs aren't always the most popular - sometimes it's just a matter of choosing the right one for your own personal life.

Jeremy Reeves has created a website just for you that reviews what he considers to be the best weight loss programs on the market. Show yourself that you're serious about losing weight and go check out http://www.fitness-product-reviews.com before you do anything else today.
